40 Days of Life | Day 2 | Are You Prepared?

I've always been a person with strong convictions.  In elementary school I remember playing on the swings and discussing evolution versus creation.  I'm not sure any actual conversation occurred, but I do remember passionately sharing my perspective with the other kids!

Any more it's hard to find an actual debate.  People emoting are in abundance, but with little substance to support the feelings.  It's easy to fall into this trap.  Often I study the angles, arrive at a conclusion and then unintentionally forget the entire process that led me there.  This does not serve me well when trying to demonstrate a point!

There are topics too important not to have an answer for, one of them is defending the value of life.

Life Training Institute is an organization that equips learners to understand the pro-life movement and defend their views.  They provide a wealth of knowledge in books, articles and lectures.

I love the following story from Stand for Life, a book addressing students.

"Let's jump twelve years into the future.  You're in your thirties, married, and have a five-year-old boy.  One day as you're scrubbing dishes with your back turned, he enters the kitchen and asks, 'Daddy (or Mommy), can I kill this?'  What are the first words out of your mouth?  You can never answer the questions 'Can I kill this?' until you answer the underlying question, what is it?" *

This visual reminder gets to the heart of the abortion debate. Many arguments for abortion begin with the assumption that pre-born babies are not human, but the question is avoided: What is it? Are you prepared to give an answer?
